Associate Professor of technology and operations management at INSEAD
Manuel E. Sosa is associate professor of technology and operations management at INSEAD.
He is the director of the INSEAD’s Heinrich and Esther Baumann-Steiner Endowed Fund for
Creativity and Business. He is also the director the INSEAD’s Creativity-Business Platform.
Professor Sosa received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Universidad
Simón Bolívar (Caracas, Venezuela) and his master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical
engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Professor Sosa’s research efforts are applied to improving product development systems. He is
particularly interested in studying coordination and innovation networks in complex and
innovative organizations. His research has been published in various journals including
Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Organization
Science, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Mechanical Design, Research in
Engineering Design, and Harvard Business Review.
Professor Sosa teaches in the MBA, PhD, and Executive programs covering topics related to
innovation management. His teaching achievements include the development of a program with
the Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, California) to integrate business and design
thinking for successful innovation. He has received the Dean’s commendation for excellence in
MBA teaching in 2009, 2011, and 2012. He has been nominated twice for best professor award
for his MBA elective course on innovation management (2012, 2013).
His work experience includes systems engineering in the petrochemical industry, and
development and deployment of computer-aided engineering software applications for the
automobile and aerospace industries
